provincia di cagliariThe new province of Cagliari composed of 71 towns with its about 543.310 inhabitants, occupies a land of about 4.570 square kilometers and it is mostly situated in the urban area of the city. It lists more of the 50% of provincial inhabitants and the 17% of the regional ones.

THE NATURAL ESTATE OF THE PROVINCE

The territory of the province of Cagliari presents a very high natural attractive both for quality and for quantity: here we can find protected areas like: 26 SIC areas, 3 Special Protected Zones: Pond of Molentargius, Pond of Cagliari and the forest of Monte Arcosu, the protected sea areas of Capo Carbonara, a natural monument, 3 regional natural parks.



The most interesting natural areas are the following:

  • Area of Flumendosa: the river system, presents the richness of its flora and fauna, we can found here the presence of  a SIC area, Gennargentu Mount, the urban center of Sadali and Seulo, the natural reserve of the lake Mulargia. This area offers tourists the attractive area of Nuraghe Arrubiu, the mining area of Gerrei, the ecomuseum of Seulo, the natural forest of “Su Sciusciu- Gruttasa de Alierì”(Seulo), the home museum Omu a’xiu. Another attraction is the touristic area of Muravera-Villaputzu: it is the place where you can find very interesting structures and a good alternative system of tourism;
  • The Mountains of Monte Arcosu: its high naturalistic value is due to the presence of the Regional Park (Gutturu Mannu), two SIC areas and a Natural Monument: SIC area Forest of Monte Arcosu, Acquafredda. The natural protected area is a WWF property;
  • The Mountain System of Sette Fratelli: Inside this wonderful and naturalistic area we can find two SIC areas Monte dei Sette Fratelli and Sarrabus, Riu San Barzolu and the Natural Monument of Riu San Barzolu. Its most important attractive for tourism is the richness of its flora and fauna;
  • The system of the metropolitan area of Cagliari: The SIC areas ( Pond of Molentargius, Natural Reserve of Molentargius), the attractive coasts, the high quality of the sea the existing infraestructural services seem to be the exstraordinary estate for Cagliari and its territory;
  • The Coasts system of Geremeas-Villasimius and the area of Pula-Domus de Maria-Teulada: the presence of a series of SIC areas, its coast landescape represent the competitive resources for tourism expecially during the summer period;
  • The Coast system of Muravera-Villaputzu: SIC areas- Cape of S.Giusta (Costa Rei), Ponds of Colostrai, Fumendosa river, Ponds of Murtas and S’acqua Durci and the high quality of the beaches represent a great and naturalistc resource;
  • The system of lagoons and ponds: lagoons and ponds presents a great richness of flora and fauna. Most of these areas are protected by Ramsar Convention and they are represented as SIC areas in the site “Nature 2000 of Regione Sardegna”.

Provincia di Cagliari and its economic system

The productive system of Cagliari bases its economy essentially on trade market.
In this economy has an important place Building trade, exactly property activities and manifacture system with food industries.

The Agrobuisiness sector is relevant too. In the province of Cagliari we have about the 20% of the whole Regional farm product. The agrobuisiness sector ( with its food industries ) is strictly connected with industrial transformation activities. It happens for milk, meat, wine, oil and fruit products. Local Industry is a complex sector presenting different types of products: from the petrolchemical Industry of Sarroch area, to the manifacture Industry.

Industrial system rapresents the 18% of the whole market value, with the 22% of employed people. The other economic sectors of Industry are connected with manifacture system ( about 50% of employed people ) and with building system ( about 41% ) . The traditional and handicraft market ( ceramics, wood, metal, textile ) is connected with very small firms and so its market product is strictly local.

Tourism: It is an important and varied sector. Its main attractive is located in the coast areas and it takes place usually in summer periods, from May to September. The touristic system of the province of Cagliari has got the 30% of the whole touristic regional structures. The capacity to receive tourists is connected with the big Hotel’s system ( 60% ), it is exclusively concentrates along coast areas. The quality of Hotel is mainly of 4 stars ( 46% ). The Province of Cagliari can also offer particular services as Bed and Breakfast and Agri-tourism. The tourism request is addressed essentially on the coast towns of the Province. Tourism in general is related to the necessity to use good services, but nowadays it cannot be considered sufficient for tourists. Our strategy in order to increase tourism, constists of creating new kinds of Alternative hospitality
